In contrast to, for example, the gigantic sundial on the French dam in "Sundial of the month” for September 2009, here is a diminutive horizontal sundial.
At 25 mm, it is about the size of a stiver – a pre-Euro coin of about the size and value of a 2p coin.
This sundial was made in 1998 on the occasion of the twentieth birthday of De Zonnewijzerkring, with a copy presented to every member.
Both sides of the style triangle are marked ZW, an abbreviation for Zonnewijzer (sundial).
Only the hour lines for 9 and 8 o’clock have numerals. The number 98 represents the year 1998 .
A circle is cut out of the style triangle. ‘Circle’ also means association or society.
Together, the symbols read:
The Sundial Society, 1998.
The project was executed entirely gratis by three Society members.
Idea: Hans de Rijk.
Prototype, made from an actual stiver: Jan Kragten.
Batch production: Fer Wilbrink
