Pavement sundial in Uden, 1994.

One of the sundials that I have worked on as designer and counsellor, is a pavement sundial in Uden, in the province North Brabant.

After the renovation of some flats in Willem Alexander Court, the immediately surrounding area was to be redeveloped as well.
An occupants' meeting decided for a pavement sundial in the small park, to be realised by the municipality of Uden, using materials available in the town's workshop.

Although the selected location is in the flats' shadow when the sun is low, during the day the sundial receives enough sunlight for walkers to enjoy it.

The style of the sundial consists of three tubes, welded together and anchored in a block of concrete in the soil.
The hour lines are made of stone ridges, and end in round stones carrying the hour numerals.

Especially the upper storey occupants have a good view of this sundial in the small park.
