Year 2004
The small community of Mun, near Schayk in North Brabant, with about 76 inhabitants, celebrated its 750th anniversary in 2003.
A document of this age confirms this.
This memorable fact was celebrated with a massive popular feast, and with the raising of an appropriate monument in the form of a sundial, as shown in this photograph.
It is a horizontal sundial in the shape of a ring, fixed to a leaning column that also supports the gnomon as it projects through the centre of the ring.
The ring shows apparent solar time in Roman numerals.
Material used is a combination of stainless steel and Cor-Ten® steel (a naturally oxidizing product to provide the appearance of rust).
The sundial sits on a large boulder in a small square along a bicycle trail.
Two inviting benches provide for a pleasant pause on a sporty trip.
