This sundial was specially made for our friend Jan de Wit, on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday. The sides of the sundial are decorated with two zodiacal signs: Aquarius, the Water Carrier, and Libra, the Scales.

This sundial has two shadow casters: the two upper edges on the sides. They are parallel to the axis of the earth.
In the morning hours the east edge casts its shadow into the bowl, in the afternoon the west one.

The hour lines are doubly numbered. The hour line of nine in the morning is the same as that for three in the afternoon.

The sundial is of hewn serpentine *. It is about 40 cm tall, 25 cm wide, and 30 cm deep (including the pedestal) (16 x 10 x 12 inches).
