Vertical declining sundial.

On 6 September 2003, Mr. Berkhoff and Mrs. Berhkoff-Ormel celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Their relatives gave them a sundial.

On the sundial are the co-ordinates of Haren (53°10' N, 6°36' E) and the date: 6 September.

The dial reads apparent time on the straight lines marked with Roman numerals.
Between 12 and 13 hours apparent, there is a figure-of-eight shaped equation-of-time loop. This loop lets you read civil noon.

On the sundial is also the date line for 6 September; this is the thick, curved line from middle lower left to upper right.
On 6 September, the shadow of the tip of the shadow caster follows this line exactly.
