The figurine shown here was composed in wax and subsequently cast in bronze using the lost-wax method (cire perdue or investment casting).
The sitting character, leaning forward, is looking at the afternoon half of a sundial made of solid silver.
The sundial was hand engraved and shows the following:
Apparent solar time: Roman numerals
Summer time: Arabic numerals
Date lines according to the zodiac
One special date line
Place: 's Hertogenbosch
Latitude: 51 degs, 11 mins
Longitude: 5 degs, 18 mins
The style triangle is in the shape of an italic “A”, decorated with flowers.
The woman for whom this object is intended is, so to speak, past her own life’s noon.
The motto of the work, "A Sunny Moment", refers to birth and all life’s sunny moments afterwards.
The bronze character is witness of these sunny moments.
