Combination sundial

Armillary sphere dial + horizontal sundial

Our member Chris Horikx wished to add a sundial to his garden, and he designed and calculated a combination of an armillary sphere and a horizontal sundial.

For the realisation, he called upon two other members of De Zonnewijzerkring for help.
Gerrit Sasbrink made the armillary sphere, and Hendrik Hollander took care of the horizontal dial.

The armillary sphere is adjusted to read Central European summer time, and the horizontal dial shows local apparent solar time.

The horizontal sundial is provided with two date lines; one for the beginning of summer, and one for the beginning of spring and of autumn.
The index on the shared pole style is used to read these dates.
