LightLine sundial


Construct a box with a south facing roof in the polar plane. That plane is parallel to the axis of the earth.
Cut a slit in the roof to provide the pole style for sundials in the sides of the box.
These sundials are read using not a shadow line but a line of light.
In the sides of the box are windows of frosted glass, making the line of light visible from the outside.

The example shows three sundials: a direct south, a direct west, and a direct east dial.
Notice that you look at these sundials from the other side, making the hour numerals run in a direction opposite to what we are used to.
