Vertical sundial

An old picture postcard of halfway the previous century shows a sundial on the wall of the small church of Oud Avereest.
It is probable that this was an old sundial, because hand-forged nails were still in the wall.

In 1981, Gerrit Sasbrink, in consultation with the church council, placed a new wooden sundial in the same place.
Now, over 25 years later, the sundial was repainted and again looks as new.

The close-up photograph of the sundial shows that it reads apparent solar time.
The sundial face declines east by about 8 degrees.
