Cut-away and stretched
armillary sphere

Papendrecht

Of the well-known armillary sphere, the only elements necessary for it to function as a sundial are the pole style and the ring of hour marks.
And even the ring can be deformed into a twist, producing a sundial like the one shown here.
The middle of the ribbon is fixed to a pedestal, and the bent tips support the pole style.

The sundial shows local apparent time.
The construction is 90 cm (3’) tall, and the hour ribbon is 10 cm (4”) wide.
There are decorative symbols for the zodiacal signs of Pisces and Cancer.
On the pole style is a ball of 3 cm (1-¼”) diameter.
