Spherical sundial

Two inclined triangular metal sheets meet so that their intersection is a pole style.
The sheets also serve as the support for a spherical sundial.

Around the equator, between the tropics, are the eight I Ching trigrams: heaven, wind, water, mountain, earth, thunder, fire, mist.
The tops and bottoms of these signs outline the tropics, and the lines square to these are the hour lines.
There are no numerals; time must be read by counting.

In order to read time, there are pins for each hour; thick ones between the trigrams, thin for each of the two hours in between.
One looks for the shortest shadow, or for the shadow parallel to the hour lines. From there, one counts the hour lines.
Intermediate times must be interpolated, which makes readout slightly harder.
