In 2010, two sundials were realized on a square in Almere:
an analemmatic sundial and a block sundial.
See "work of members" June 2010.
We read there that a third sundial, a sphere, was yet to come.
This dial is now in place, and the entire project is completed.
The photograph below shows the analemmatic sundial and part of the block, with the spherical dial in the background.
Two photos show the sphere closer up.
It is made of stainless steel and rests on a stone pedestal.
The globe represents the earth and shows the contours of the five continents.
Under the hour digits XI and X we recognize Africa, and above the VII is India.
Of course, the sphere has its axis at an angle of 52 degrees with the horizon and pointing north.
In this way, its attitude in space is the same as that of the real earth, and The Netherlands are on the top of the sphere.
This spherical sundial indicates local apparent time.
During readout, the position of the vane will also show the places on earth which have true noon.
There, the sun is at the height of its diurnal arc.
