In Lelystad, the "The Estates" district was recently finished. It consists of numerous types of houses, among which a type featuring sun oriels.

On the district’s completion, the Kingma construction company gave a sundial.
The sundial exists of an ellipse with 24 round granite stones with hour numerals.
In the middle, a granite slab carries the date strip.
Ornamental paving completes the sundial.

When a person stands on the correct date on the central slab, his shadow indicates local apparent time.

The date strip

A 50x50cm granite slab near the sundial shows the difference between local apparent time and civil (winter) time. This enables one to deduce clock time as well. For daylight saving time, one should add an additional hour.
Hierdoor is het mogelijk ook de klokkentijd te weten te komen.

Another slab of this size shows directions for use for the sundial.
