On the corner of restaurant ‘t Stoute Soldaatje’ (which could be translated as the bold, but also as the naughty soldier) in Nieuwersluis, Utrecht, is a combination of a southwest and a southeast sundial.
The premises are from 1610, but it is unknown if the sundials are as old.
The sundials are stone slabs on a console, with a white ground and a dark green band.
Messrs. Bult and Blokhuis restored the whole in 1983, adding new nicely cut brass style triangles.
The two hour and date line patterns are not symmetrical, which means that the sundials are not directed exactly southwest and southeast.
The angle between the two walls is not 90 degrees either. The right sundial declines 36 degrees east, the left one 42 degrees west.
