The Northwest wall of this house in IJsselstein carries a sundial.
One does not frequently see a dial on a wall facing that direction, but it is possible.
It is immediately apparent that the gnomon points up instead of down.
But take a look also at the hour lines on this sundial:
from two-thirty in the afternoon until midnight (solar time).
This sundial will not work in the morning,
but still, there remain enough hours that it can indicate.
Even the hours from the latest possible sunset up to midnight are drawn.
As for actual time indication these are, of course, superfluous, but from the aesthetic point of view, the sundial gains beauty.
