In Otos, Spain, eight sundials were recently realised.
We will discuss one of them here.
The dial pattern - itself a shadow -, where the time is read, inches across the wall.
On whole hours, the shadow of the gnomon cuts a 'teardrop-shaped melon seed' through the middle.
Reading on the wall of intermediate times is not possible; that would require a slot in the pattern. It is possible, however, on the sloping area, as far as that is visible.
The design shows that it is possible to introduce movement in a sundial. A most charming idea.
