Cube sundial

Hoogezand

In the Oosterpark (East Park) in Hoogezand, province Groningen, there is a monumental cubic sundial..
The north and south dials are plane dials with style triangles, the hour scales are divided into quarters.
The east and west dials, however, are hollow spheres cut out of the stone, with bar gnomons. The hour scales are divided here into half-hours.

On the opening of the Oosterpark in 1932, the then burgomaster gave the sundial to the municipality of Hoogeveen.
It is unknown if it was an existing sundial or specially made for that occasion.

In 1993 the sundial was restored, using the advice of members of the Zonnewijzerkring.
