This stone vertical sundial, slightly west declining, is bricked in the wall of the Reformed Church on the Enschede marketplace.
Its numerals go from 7 AM to 6:30 PM, divided in quarter hours.
The dial reads local apparent time.
The gnomon is a solid style triangle.
There is an equation-of-time-loop beneath the sundial. Its index is the tip of the style triangle.
The loop reads mean noon. It was used to set the tower clock as well as people’s watches.
The sundial is from 1836 and was designed by Coenraad ter Kuile, according to an information tablet underneath the sundial.
There is a chronogram in the text. The underlined letters are:
MCMVWIII
This is 1918, when the tablet was put on the wall.
Note: W to be read as V V
In 1991, another tablet was put on, with some explanation replacing older text.
